Beautiful variety of games, vastly knowledgeable team, good coffee and more make this an absolute gem. Tables can be booked to play games from an extensive game library. Such a cool place! 7 months agoThe kids and I have been regulars recently. In each of the two hours we were able to try two or three games. Very knowledgable and helpful staff during weekdays who explain the games and are obviously enthusiastic about games. You can also get a coffee/latte to drink while you play.

2 years agoA great space and wonderful staff, was here with my family for a birthday treat and we all had a wonderful time with the huge selection in the board game library. Coffee and cookies were really good too. Big thumbs up for Ancient Robot, we will be back soon!

However, Dougal spent the best part of an hour with me and my husband finding out what kind of games we liked and went out of his way to find and talk us through loads of options. I really appreciated the time he took with... Read more
I went in looking for 2 specific games, unfortunately they were out of stock. However, Dougal spent the best part of an hour with me and my husband finding out what kind of games we liked and went out of his way to find and talk us through loads of options. I really appreciated the time he took with us, and I didn't leave empty handed! 10/10 customer service, I'll definitely be back! I also want to point out that Dougal phoned another game shop to see if they had the games I needed to save us a trip! Show less

Helpful staff. Good coffee and cakes. Prices are not discounted. They offer game playing everyday and have some evening events. A good addition to Edinburgh boardgames scene.

6 months agoHad such a lovely time playing games with my family would definitely recommend booking a table honestly for any group of people. It’s an awesome concept with great execution. Staff were also kind and accommodating with great game suggestions!

Very affordable, great game selection and fantastic, polite and attentive staff. Nice atmosphere, location. Pretty much couldn't ask for more out of a board games café. 3 months agoMe and a friend went in to have a look for some Christmas gifts. Alex was really helpful and chatted away while my friend browsed. Very knowledgeable and made the experience really fun. Also chatted about game nights that happen regularly which sounded super great!

9 months agoThe name of the store makes it sound like a place suspended in time, a post apocalyptic time so far un the future. Lived the selection of games and picked up something special for someone back home.

My girlfriend and I were at Ancient Robot Games yesterday evening and played 2 games and had a hot chocolate. Very friendly staff and many board games. As big boardgame fans from Germany we had to visit this place and we would love to come back! :)

6 months agoExcellent collection of games to play in store, and to buy. RPG section at the back with interesting books. Staff friendly and knowledgeable, particularly good at explaining the rules to any games you are trying out. Booking a table is really easy and reasonably priced. Highly recommend!

I love it here. I’ve gone many times to just browse and have booked a table several days as a date day or to hang out with friends which is a great way to spend time. The selection of games is great, their prices are super competitive but most of all the staff all seem to truly love what they do. They’re enthusiastic, friendly and helpful even when they’re busy. Their recommendations are always spot on and they offer to give you a quick tutorial on games if you’re playing them in store, which is such a good way to quick start the games - especially for me as I’m easily overwhelmed by the learning stages. I recently commented to one of the staff how nice it was to see their enthusiasm and they told me they get to help people have fun and it doesn’t get much more rewarding than that, which was so wholesome and lovely. They’re an inclusive safe space which I love to see and the teas, coffees, cold drinks and baked goods they have in store are really good too. Super pleased to have this in the neighbourhood! 4 months agoGreat gaming spaces with an excellent selection of board/card/war games! The staff are always very friendly and willing to help out; I'd absolutely recommend to all fans of tabletop gaming of any sort! (The coffee is also great!)
