Excellence! My find and I decided to purposely seek out a black owned coffee shop. Someone recommended Baldwin. It was an excellent experience. The coffee was very good. We went with the traditional americano blend to properly judge the coffee. I was very pleased. The barista was very courteous. Now let's talk atmosphere! The vibe was great! There are different sections available and socially distanced. There is an outside court as well. I was given a mask when I asked because I forgot mine in the car. That was really nice of them. I love the book theme they have going which goes inline with the namesake of the famous writer James Baldwin. They even have a podcast booth/office you can rent. Now let the photos talk for themselves. Show less

Such a vibe! We browsed the book selection while sipping on our drinks. Lavender lemonade is amazing! I also really enjoyed the iced Chai Latte. Cute outdoor area with seating to enjoy the weather. Highly recommend for a quiet getaway.

Baldwin and co is my favorite bookstore in all of New Orleans. It has a huge portrait of Langston Hughes and James Baldwin on the walls and is super cute and with honey comb tiles and amazing coffee drinks named after Baldwin novel's. It's black owned and locally owned and the owner is so nice and kind and is really trying to make a difference in the community. They also have a huge outdoor patio perfect for spring time and warm weather. They also have weekly events where sometimes authors come and give talks about their recently published books. Every book you buy some of the money gets donated to local education programs and locally owned independent bookstores. I live in Denver currently but always order a huge amount of books from Baldwin & Co because they have a WONDERFULLLLLLLLLLL selection of books and I'm supporting education and bookstores by buying from them. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Baldwin and Co. I hope it becomes your new favorite place for coffee and books in New Orleans because it sure is mine :) thank you Baldwin and Co. 😊😊😊😊😊 Show less

Great coffee stop while we were in town for a convention. My wife and I are pretty strict on the coffee we enjoy and the cup here was very enjoyable. We would definitely stop here if we were in town again.

Smallish bookstore and cafe, I finally made myself come through for a visit. While not a coffee fan, they were busy on a early Monday afternoon with people enjoying their drinks and food. I just came to check out their collection and to purchase a Baldwin book. They have a limited selection of books, but I found several interesting titles to add to my list. It being a James Baldwin themed store, they had most of his collection of novels, short stories and other writings. I hopefully bought a novel I haven't read before. I've read several of his books, but don't actually own any(until now) so I never remember which titles I've read. I received a GC as a gift, so no harm if I end up rereading one of his excellent works. They're all new prints and priced accordingly. I'll definitely have to make more of an effort to visit in the future. They're constantly having authors and speakers along with their book events. I was lucky enough to catch an excellent Ta-Nehisi Coates event they hosted at Xavier several months back. I'm glad I finally got to check this place off my bookstore tour list. Show less

I’m disappointed to say that some deep cracks in ideology have taken root here. Seeing Candace Owens’ and Shaun King’s books being promoted throughout the store brought up questions for me around how disconnected this feels from local communities, and even bigger questions about what values the store owner wants to promote. In this time of censorship, the targeting of certain communities, and a loss of civil rights, we owe it to each other to be discerning and call each other in about topics we won’t engage with. James Baldwin would note the irony in having these books authored by known grifters who co-opt and weaponize the language of justice being promoted right next to many of his works. Show less
