Just moved to town, was worried I wouldn't have a good local store. I found this place, walked in, and was immediately absolved of any such fears. Excellent stock, free tables, and friendly staff. It's neat, welcoming, and full of genuine passion and care for both games and the people playing them. I'm gonna be spending a lot of time here, I seriously cannot recommend it enough. Stumbling across Board Bard Games after dining at a nearby favorite restaurant was a fantastic find, and I'm glad to know I don't have to drive all the way across town whenever I'm looking for a n... Hey! There's a new(ish?) gaming shop in town, and it's actually semi-sorta close to my house, for once! Stumbling across Board Bard Games after dining at a nearby favorite restaurant was a fantastic find, and I'm glad to know I don't have to drive all the way across town whenever I'm looking for a new board game, some dice, a new RPG book, a pack of [insert your favorite] TCG cards, miniature paints, brushes, and all manner of other gaming geekery and gear! Apparently everyone else in the immediate area got the memo before I did, because the place was *packed* with patrons playing pretend with painted plastic proxies of pistol-packing Primarchs punishing patrols and parties of pan-universal peoples...in this case, Warhammer: Kill Team. Every table was entirely covered with detailed terrain, miniatures, books, cards, tape measures and beverages, surrounded by gamers bent forward in ergonomically-unfriendly hunched positions, guaranteed to cause back problems in the future! It's not the largest gaming space in the city, but they pack a lot of product, and people, into it, utilizing every square inch of their real estate to its fullest. I saw several games that I own, or want to own, and enough of everything any nerd would need for the game that fits their fancy. I was very impressed, and will definitely be back in the future, likely sooner than later, the next time my dice betray me and end up in Dice Jail™. Show less

Howdy folks. Get this: my son had a school assignment to write about someone he admires most past or present... He didn't pick a historical figure or a family member, instead he wrote about Curtis of Board Bard Games. About a year ago, my son got into D&D, but as a no-nothing supportive parent, I started looking for places where he might learn and grow and cultivate this interest. I walked in to Board Bard and asked Curtis if there were any resources he knew about in Portland for kids just getting started. He could have pointed me to a shelf or Google and called it a day, but instead he invited me and my son to join his beginner D&D game, which is usually for teens and adults. Since then, my son has looked forward to Tuesday nights and attended rain or shine. First D&D with Curtis, then other campaigns, now he's there Mondays for Magic the Gathering... He asks for Board Bard gift cards for every birthday and holiday. It's truly his favorite place in the world. As a parent, this is beyond touching. I'm always looking for ways to support my kids interests and find opportunities where they can grow, build confidence, lean into their interests, and engage with peers and adults. Board Bard isn't just a game store, it's a community of good humans. Can't recommend it highly enough. Yes the selection, yes the prices and space for game play, but especially for the people. I went in for some D&D minis and some paints. Decent selection of both, with multiple brands to choose from. Staff was awesome and answered all of my questions. Shop has lots of room for gaming. I had a great experience with them and am happy that a good gaming store opened up near my neighborhood.... Read more
