A hidden gem in Buffalo. This is a non-profit focused on teaching people how to make video games. Video Game creation is more than just software development skills, it includes: art, music, writing, and design of game mechanics. The all volunteer team at the space teach weekly classes on the fundamentals of game building and they hold quarterly "Game Jams". Game Jams are where 30-50 people show up and have a friendly competition to build games in 72 hours(similar to a hackathon). If you're in to video games or have ever considered building a game you owe it to yourself to attend an event and become part of this community. They have a meetup group and a facebook group that announces their events, you can also use their co-working space for a monthly membership fee that provides you a discount on taking classes there. The Buffalo Game Space is a supportive and inclusive community that provides high-quality workshops, classes, and professional development meetings. This community is unique in that all level of technological enthusiasts can learn more about the world of game development. From pro developers to brand new gamers, you are welcomed to engage in important conversations and encouraged to utilize your personal talents (coding, music, graphic design, etc.) and contribute to projects. I had heard of BGS a few years back, and finally had the opportunity to participate in a game jam. This was my first Game Jam experience and I feel like I have a space in the game development world and a supportive community to grow with. I really appreciate the enthusiasm and passion of the mentors and board leaders. You get the chance to meet people from different background that share a passion for games. I highly recommend checking out Buffalo Game Space. Show less
