Staff were at no fault, but unfortunately left feeling rlly disappointed with this place. I initially picked up 4 games off the shelf, the first was Dobble which had actually turned grey with dirt at the edges so I put it back as I didn’t want to touch it. The second game I picked up had half of the instructions held together with tape and the other half had been ripped off so I couldn’t work out how to play. 3rd game was chess, had to put it back as pieces were missing, picked up another chess game - this had different random pieces that didnt match. Ordered 4 cocktails, chips and played games for no more than 3hrs, bill was over £70 with over £20 of that being bills for “maintaining quality of the games, replacing missing pieces etc”. For that price you’d hope games would be in usable condition. Show less

Fantastic food and an amazing selection of games. The service is very friendly and there are many opportunities to ask questions if you don’t understand game rules/menu etc. You can easily play a few games in the time you have and is great for both two people and groups. Visited Chance & Counters today with my partner and kids (booked for 2 hours, left around 8pm). Sadly, this visit was extremely disappointing compared to previous times. Service: The gentleman who took our order was fantastic. I am gluten free and he was very helpful and attentive throughout. He also noticed straight away when my burger came out on a non-gluten bun and took it back without me even asking — excellent service from him. Food quality: The kids’ meals were burnt, though they ate them as they were hungry. When my burger came back with the correct gluten free bun, the bun itself was burnt on one side, the patties were also burnt, and the chips that should have come with it were missing. Accused of lying: When I raised this with another young lady server, she went to check with the kitchen and came back saying the chips had already been sent. I was stunned. I then had to argue my case and point out my plate, as if I was lying and trying to steal food. Being accused of lying and stealing over a missing portion of chips was absolutely shocking and left me feeling humiliated. Manager response: I spoke again to the original server, who was brilliant and did what he could. He explained the situation to the manager and came back to tell me they had authorised a refund for my meal and asked if I wanted a replacement. I declined as by then I was too upset. What shocked me further is that the manager never came to speak with me directly at any point, even after overhearing what had happened at the till when my partner paid. The manager did issue some game time vouchers, but still didn’t come over personally. Overall experience: We spent over £80 on what should have been a fun family evening, but instead it was appalling, disappointing, and left me feeling accused of lying and stealing. What makes it worse is that I genuinely love Chance & Counters. I’ve visited before and even a few months ago my friend’s burger came out burnt and was refunded. I assumed the kitchen issues would have been resolved by now, but sadly not. I honestly cannot believe how poor this experience was and how badly it was handled. Hugely disappointing. Show less

Super! They have an immense range of board games that are sorted by categories. Staff is welcoming and friendly. Food is excellent. Definitely recommending the cauliflower wings that are delicious. They had a games guru/wizard on hand, who was really useful. They knew all the games that were there, asked us what kind of games we wanted to play and came back with selection tailored for us. They explained each game and how to roughly play them. There were lots of interesting food items on the menu. We went for a variety of food. A few of us ordered the same things, but some of the portions varied in size. There are also a large selection of drinks to try, we went through quite a few and found all of them nice. I've always been a fan of this place, the game selection is the staff have always been friendly and accommodating, the biggest downside was that it has always been mildly cramped... This time in particular however was truly incredible. The place had been redone, so the cramped issue had been completely resolved (it also wasn't incredibly busy so I can't say how is like when it's busy, but the tables are far more appropriately spaced out so I doubt it's much of an issue) additionally, the food was GORGEOUS the two of us who came had the satay fried and a chicken burger as a part of a lunchtime meal offer alongside a drink and we were thoroughly impressed!! Lastly, a massive positive review to Will B! Not only was he a friendly and anchorage face, but hw is so evidently passionate about both board games and his job, you can tell in his attitude towards customers and how helpful he is and encouraging of others!! He really elevated the atmosphere to a whole other level! Show less

Good selection of drinks too. 4 yrs later...went back with wife and daughter and had another great time chilling, having a laugh, getting competitive and amongst a great atmosphere. Food was good, although two of the items we asked for, they had run out. Oreo and Biscoff milkshakes were great. They've expanded the range of games with international games inducing an Indian national favourite Karem (like pool but played with counters and fingers). £4 per person and 10% service charge is added on the food and drinks bill. Their event nights including Blood on the Clocktower and D&D are personable, entertaining and well organised. Customer service regarding original review and changes to bookings due to weather were met with positivity and were dealt with ease. Staff are amazing. ORIGINAL REVIEW They have a good range of games but many of them aren't in good condition. Some of the staff are really competent but some not so much. I recently signed up for their loyalty card - was not asked for it when they asked me to pay before the end of my session and then as I was leaving I asked to have it scanned, they said they couldn't as I'd already paid. I'm appalled that they've set up a loyalty scheme that can't be used effectively. Show less

Fantastic selection of board games of all types and complexity levels. We had plenty of drinks and burgers. Everything came out quickly and was nice. The price was about what you'd expect. The staff are the real difference makers. We first asked for help playing a new game (Quacks) and the staff member was able to walk us through the first turn and give us a good idea of the flow of the game. This really sped up the game and it was impressive they knew the rules off the top of their head. The same staff member (we didn't catch their name but they had long hair and tattoos and were very friendly), recommend us a card game (Courtisans) to play with our final 30 minutes which also went down well. You can book a table for a set amount of time. There were three of us and we did three hours which was enough for food, drinks and 3 games (two new, one familiar). So I recommend that as an amount of time to get stuck in. It was a Saturday afternoon and most tables were in use so book ahead. We will definitely visit again. Show less

Fantastic selection of board games of all types and complexity levels. We had plenty of drinks and burgers. Everything came out quickly and was nice. The price was about what you'd expect. The staff are the real difference makers. We first asked for help playing a new game (Quacks) and the staff member was able to walk us through the first turn and give us a good idea of the flow of the game. This really sped up the game and it was impressive they knew the rules off the top of their head. The same staff member (we didn't catch their name but they had long hair and tattoos and were very friendly), recommend us a card game (Courtisans) to play with our final 30 minutes which also went down well. You can book a table for a set amount of time. There were three of us and we did three hours which was enough for food, drinks and 3 games (two new, one familiar). So I recommend that as an amount of time to get stuck in. It was a Saturday afternoon and most tables were in use so book ahead. We will definitely visit again. Show less
