I moved to the area and this was the first hobby store I happened upon. I didn't know at the time that this was a franchise but now it makes a lot of sense. I called about a MTG prerelease and the woman on the phone could not tell me anything about it. Eventually the person told me that she had a migraine and had to go. I've stopped by the store a few times because they list multiple events on the MTG events calendar. A majority of these events are not run due to low turnout, I think they list them just to look like they have a lot going on due to being a premier store (whatever that means). It's a clean store but feels very sterile and their gaming area reminds me of a grade school cafeteria. There is no divided space unless you want to pay for their special gaming room. It gets quite loud just because it's a big open room. The staff member up front usually gives a half hearted hello when you walk into the door. I was hoping for a local store that knew your name, what you played and loved what they did. This store is what's wrong when a chain business expands by franchising. Show less

As a former employee you may take this with a Grain of Salt. Yes Game Kastle is a franchise store but is owned by a local family. Their focus is a family friendly environment. The camera system is up to date & deters theives so your property is safe to run to the rest room. This store doesn’t specialize in just one game like others in the area. Expect to find variety from TCGs to Board games to Star Wars. GK is in Wizard’s Premium program. So you can get products here early. Very quick to order a game if not in their inventory or if another location doesn’t have it. Note: the closet Game Kastle outside of South Carolina is the Maryland location. The others are West of the Mississippi. In my honest opinion the Richardson’s go above & beyond to care for their customers when able. Being a franchise their hands are tied by Corp who is based in California. So certain rules they have are due to that. Yes I’m looking those who don’t like the No Gun sign. You don’t need it to shuffle cards. They are the first East Coast store so expect some growing pains. Corp needs to allow them to enter items that they themselves forgot. Since this & the Maryland store open four hours before Corp wakes up in Cali. Located in a very highway it is near a Red light for easy access to the store. Not much parking so for event arrive early. Food is half a mile away. The store is very clean & has four bathrooms two male & two female. Show less

Competitive magic players avoid this store. I was insulted by the prize support at my RCQ. $40 entry is already absurd, but the prizeout for 19 players was less than a box of Duskmorn. First, modern players don't care about standard packs, and second that's $120 (retail, not even what they pay) for $760 in entry *Amendment: the top 8 ultimately prized out 2 boxes of Duskmorn or $415 in store credit. I'm not sure if they didn't communicate well to the judge or players, but regardless those prizes are still atrocious Either this is scummy behavior to take advantage of people who travel to events here, or this is just how they treat their players. Great store with a super-friendly and super-knowledgeable staff. They are a great place to play Magic or RPGs and especially to meet people to play some RPGs that you might not see supported in a lot of game stores.

I want to support, however at double market price, Ill just buy my product online. Update-- The response to Thomas's review is just a flat out lie or the owner is blind to his own pricing. The majority of your sealed prices are above market and msrp price. For instance I was quoted 240 for a duskmorn booster box on release, meanwhile tcg player had them for 170 (the market price) and every other local store had them at 180. This store does not charge market or msrp prices for their tcg sealed product Period. End of story. To the owner check your inventory of magic commander decks compared to tcg player or your booster boxes and then try to tell anyone with a straight face you are selling at market price or msrp. And then to add the bit about having to pay brick and mortar prices. Every other brick and mortar store in town manage to sell at market prices, why can't you? Show less

Went in with my husband the other day and had a great time! Staff was super nice, you can purchase sodas and walk around with them. Also, if you have someone with you who likes to look around for long periods, there is plenty of space to sit down.

This store is so amazing. I love the atmosphere and everyone is super friendly and helpful. They've got a discord and a calender with dates and times of events and such happening. Be warned, for those events, it can get noisy and crowded in the small shop, but it's worth it!

Every time I visit, I am greeted when entering the store, asked if I’m looking for anything, and even engaged in active conversation. The cashier always remembers me by name and strikes up a conversation. The store is neat, clean, and always has what I’m looking for. It seems that most of the negativity this store gets is from people not understanding how allocation works with products. Franchise or not, the people at this location know how to run a business! I’ve been coming to this store for about 9 months and it is honestly one of the best stores in the upstate. Every member of the staff has always been kind and I’ve actually met a lot of people I now classify as close friends while spending time here. They offer a wide variety of board games, table top games, and card games as well as hosting events for these games. They even have store demo board games that anyone can come and try out as well! I’ve even had the owner help me out when I was looking for a specific item they didn’t have in stock. The store is always clean when I go as well which is nice. I’m not afraid to use their bathrooms like I have been at some other places I’ve been to 😂 This may be an unpopular opinion but: I also appreciate the fact the that this store makes sure all their customers are able to get a hold of new product and they won’t sell their entire stock to one person. I know that some people may not like limits being put on things because they want as much as they can get…however…the store being fair and letting everyone have a chance at getting product is actually something I really respect. Scalpers are a huge issue in card/gaming communities so to know they limit to help out the community makes me feel that they really do care about their community as a whole. Definitely give this place a shot! Show less

I have given this store so many chances. I really want to like this place, it is so close to my home and has everything I’m looking for. I stopped by last Saturday to see if there were any leftover pre-release kits from the latest MTG set. I was told they were going to be hosting their last sealed event for the FF set on Wednesday and the manager told me if there were any prerelease kits left he would sell me one or two depending on how many were available. Long story short I show up on Wednesday and was told there was one pre release kit left after the event had started. I said great! I’ll take it. The guy at the counter told me he couldn’t sell it until he heard back from the store manger what they planned to do with it since it’s a sought after set. So I wait another hour in the store but no answer from the so called manger. EVEN THOUGH HE TOLD ME ON SATURDAY ITS MINE IF THERES ANY EXTRA. I was told to go home and check back on discord around 9pm. So I did and yet again received no answer. I then called the store around 9:15pm and was told that the manger hadn’t replied. I then caught the drift of the employee. He was clearly saving it for himself or someone else he knew. He told me I can’t put my name on a list for the item and I had to check back in the morning. So my mother in law arrives at the store when they open at 10am today and lo and behold, according to the employee, someone just happen to show up right after I called at 9:15 the prior day and bought the pre-release kit. So tell me… why were you able to sell to that person and not me if you still hadn’t heard back from your manager?? Seems like it was a game to them the whole time. Either that or the employee himself bought it to re-sell. I will never support this store again. My first few times in I was offered no assistance even after standing next to the MTG case for over 15 minutes each time. This store is wack and if you’re a regular I HIGHLY recommend you look for a local place like Boardwalk or Dragon Lair. In closing, the popularity of ANY product should have NOTHING to do with whether or not they’re willing to sell their last item of the aforementioned product. I was a customer standing in front of the cashier begging to buy the product and he denied knowing full well he could have sold it. I’m beyond disappointed in this store and their utter lack of community and fellowship for other players. Show less

Show less
