2 years agoI have to admit, I can’t judge whether their food was good or bad though I’m sure it was fine… But the place is really cool. There’s always many groups of nerds, playing board games, and the staff was friendly. I give them an A- on attentiveness, but that’s pretty good.

My girlfriend and I had a good time here until the place was about to close. An employee briefly walked around the cafe and announced there were "free pastries" available that would otherwise go bad ("free", verbatim). About 10 minutes later I was at the register, buying a copy of a game that we liked (Brightcast, check it out guys 👍). In the meantime my girlfriend picked up two cookies for us from the aforementioned "free" batch scattered on the counter, facing the customer. When she handed one to me, the employee's immediate reaction was to give her an uneasy look and tell us how those were for a "voluntary tip", pointing at the tip jar. We apologized, bringing up how they had said the pastries were free. Still acting uneasy, he said we could have them since "now we touched them", and to be fair to him, he apologized for being unclear earlier. Since I was still in the middle of buying the game and now felt pressured, I offered to leave a small tip on the register's screen - one we had already tipped them on twice while buying coffees. He said "no, that's not the same". Of course not, they'd need to actually pay their taxes if I tipped with card. And that's where the second employee comes in, suggesting we should Venmo them. She pulls out her phone without even asking if we'd be willing to do that, opens her personal Venmo, and after I tell her I don't have it (I'm not from the US), she shoves it under my girlfriend's nose. At this point we considered just walking out, but we did end up tipping her a little out of pressure. I mean, they deserved it for such great service. I love the US tipping culture, but I love this place's shady practices even more. I would just go to a different spot if I were you. Two stars because the place itself was fine. Show less

Unlimited time (on weekdays) to play games meant that I wasn’t stressed about finishing up a game in time. We didn’t feel cramped at all like at other board game cafes and before 7pm was pretty empty. They had a $1 random dnd mini/ d20 gumball prize machine which got a few dollars from me. It cost $50 total for 2 people to play unlimited games, 3 sets of dnd dice for $15, 2 large drinks, and spinach dip. The staff is super nice!!!! 10/10 staff. They apparently have DnD games on Wednesdays for just the $10/person table fee. I’ll be back! Show less

Instead, I encountered rude and unhelpful staff that seemed to be annoyed that I didn’t have a reservation. Then it took ten minutes for the staff to figure out if they could seat me in the clearly half empty establishment. They found a table. We sat down started playing. We went back to the counter a few times for food or drinks, each time staff was rude. I had to talk two different people just to get the code to the bathroom. Bathroom was gross. Hex&Co. is a board game café thay is dedicated to providing a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for game hobbyists, college students, professionals, and families! The prices ranges from $10-$20, depending on the whether you are a student, the day you are coming in on, and whether you are reserving a table or not. Although, it is generally $15 per person for roughly 3 hours. The time can be shorter or longer, depending on the crowd and how busy the day is. Like most board game café, there are tons of games for you to play with friends. Whether it is a familiar one or something new, there are many things for you guys to try. While reservation is not require, I HIGHLY suggest reserving a table. It is $2 more per person, but it would be worth it. I was lucky that my friends and I came during the pouring rain and snow, so there were tables still available despite it being a weekend. Nonetheless, I still recommend you reserve a table, or at least come early. Hopefully, you and your friends have as much fun as my friends and I had! Show less
