Totally missed the mark of what we were expecting. This is not a board game cafe AT ALL and absolutely doesn't cater to a casual board game player. If you're not outspoken and willing to ask for a table, drinks, etc. you're absolutely going to have a miserable experience like we did. We had absolutely no idea where to go, what to do, aside from the mumbling hostess who said something that include the phrase "... scan QR code ..." We felt very awkward and like we didn't fit in throughout the entire place. Really an odd sensation. The were NO (zero. zilch. NONE!!!) board games around to choose from at all: you have to go into the retail area and have them get whatever you ask for. We only figured that out because someone in our party had enough of the situation and took it upon himself to go ask the myriad of staff standing around. They assume anyone knows anything because they opened yesterday? Okay.... it was honestly soooo weird. Unfortunately, service was terrible (again, had to speak up to inquire on our order throughout the night) and I actually feel bad for them because they don't turn tables here. Heaven help you if you try and play a game on your table AND order food. There simply is no room. Hard sale on a game that wasn't even fun and wasn't explained to us accurately. The people GAMING didn't get up from before we got there until after we left, and that says a lot because it unfortunately took us nearly 3 hours to have dinner and the aforementioned subpar game lesson. Crazy right? We understand the gaming culture and usually enjoy it but this was on another level. Here are some pics and you can clearly see that there's a majority type here and unfortunately that boldly excludes our group and most of the people in the area. This isn't Seattle, Mox. You clearly don't know Arizona, let alone Chandler. I wanted so much to love this place after waiting so long but we'll never go back. Now that I looked this place up again, this is crazy. It's had 4.8 stars with 30 reviews when we left tonight. Now they are 5 stars with one review, and the sub-5 star reviews don't even show up (sort by lowest and you'll see!). Crazy how they're so new and already manipulating their reviews! Probably not worth anyone's time writing anything on there than leaving an honest star rating like I am. Show less

Great concept. But not enough space in this playroom. Being crammed like sardine shoulder to shoulder, not having enough room for your game mat to lay out. Wasn't a very fun experience for my first time here. Not worth the 55 minute drive from North Phoenix in rush hour. Edited: I've been banned 😂

my friend booked our next session of dnd here, didn't realize it was even here let alone a mile from my residence. went to skope it out, got greeted pretty quickly by a nice gentlemen who gave me the low down and even showed me the private room space so I could see it. super friendly but didn't hover and the general staff/mood felt good. I got some dice because they reminded me of baja blast and now I'm inspired to make a new character, along with a roll up dice tray/storage scroll. super impressed with the stock the vibe and the space. itching for our next session even more now, and was told they had a discord I may or may have no joined in hopes of finding a new session. dope. will be back! edit:: from actual experience for our booked private room. all and all? pretty decent. we already booked another day next month for our session because over all it was a pleasant experience. the only two things I ran into is I tried to bring my mug in of water (were in az, I take it everywhere) and they said i couldn't bring it. that i understand as they have a full bar, a menu and such... but was caught a little off guard because I often bring my mug with me everywhere and it's never really been an issue except like the movie theater or something. no big deal, went and put it back on my car. food prices were a bit startling, I'll admit, but everyone liked what they had, all 7 of us. I had the breakfast chimi from brunch menu and it was gigantic, and the siren cocktail. the drink was really original and had a flavor pallete I'd never had before. would definitely get both again. most us got brunch and or a specialty drink/beer. we rented the room for 4 (ended up 5) hours and we were able to add the extra hour on at the end. the waitress was very nice too, though maybe there could be some sort of button or alert system to call them for something vs having them come in every 5/10 min, it happened pretty frequently. the room said it fit 12 people but don't think the table or space would actually allow for that. the only negatives I'd add was the private room got very warm after keeping the door closed to cut off outside noise, we turned down the lights and eventually the vent in the room started qucking ac a little over half way through our session. the other was during a break, two of us were smoking on the patio and were told we had to go to the parking lot (they have a gated ourdoor seating area with a fire pit)... there wasn't a no smoking sign in sight and the girl who said it either didn't hear me or ignored me when I apologized but asked where the was a no smoking sign to know that. only sign I saw was on a gate that said no drinks beyond this point. at the prices they offer food and drinks I'd highly recommend, for longevity, offering a snack bar to buy cheap munchies or snacks... a little popcorn or some chips/sweets would go a long way when you're looking at potentially hours of play and food thats a little too expensive to continue to eat the whole stay. also, maybe upgrading the hard wooden chairs to something more comfortable would be great. next time may bring my own butt pillow. also would be cool if private rooms, to maximize and utilize space, had actual gaming tables with cup holders and such. Loved the atmosphere in the whole space. Total coincidence but I really enjoyed the 90s rock playing the whole night my group was here! The retail section is huge and very well kept. Loved the atmosphere in the whole space. Total coincidence but I really enjoyed the 90s rock playing the whole night my group was here! The retail section is huge and very well kept. Highly recommend and while I have nothing bad to say about other game bars I've been to, this one is definitely my preference. Show less

Overall a good place. Pros: good environment with alot of space. Has a restaurant attached which has some ok quality food. Good place to meet people. Cons: the largest is they don't have any "snacks" for sale. There is no candy available and they don't let you bring it in. The restaurant has a strange menu with strange choices for playing games with your hands(almist all greasy and etc) yet there is no way to get chips or candy at this place. I'd much rather have that than beignets. Just a weird choice when they'd make a ton of money having candy around. My group of 6 all agreed on this being a huge downside. The second issue is the service from the restaurant is very mid. They won't bring soda for long periods of time and though they offer free refills you will also have to wait a long time for them. The staff isn't overly rude but also not overly friendly or helpful If they add the candy/snacks I'd easily bring it up to at least 4 stars and they'd 100% make more money Show less

My favorite place to play board games! They have a full bar and kitchen and the whole place is very clean and cozy. The store is also very well stocked and organized, and the staff are great at helping you find whatever you’re looking for. They’re the best.

Went with a group, we really enjoyed the game selection and staff was friendly. The atmosphere was nice, a little loud. Menu options are very limited. That's fine since the place is intended for games not food selection. But one of our group is vegetarian and of the two meal options for vegetarians, one was unavailable. Disappointing. Burgers were pretty messy to eat, but the flavor was alright. Great pickles. House salad was tiny but flavorful. Pesto pasta had good flavor. Pie and cheesecake were yummy. "Beignets" were not great, tiny and over fried, not enough powdered sugar and the sauces were bitter. Portions were a little small e.g. the cheesecake dessert was served in a 4oz jar for $11. You're definitely paying a premium for the benefit of using the board games. Will I go back, probably. But not for the food selection. It is a nice, easy place to host a group event. Show less

We live in Tucson but visit Mox Boarding House a handful of times when we’re in the Phoenix area. On our very first trip, Sarg gave us a fantastic tour of the space (and even described every candle scent like a true DM, amazing!). This was our first time actually sitting down to eat and play a game, and it was such a great experience. Every staff member we’ve interacted with has been friendly and welcoming. Our server over the weekend was especially warm and kind, which made the visit even better, and hope to have her ever time we go. The mac and cheese bites were just okay, but the handhelds were absolutely delicious. If you’re new to tabletop, board, or card games and live in the area, this is an excellent place to start. We’re already looking forward to our next visit! Show less
