I usually don't like leaving a bad review, but i understand how a business needs to be run. That being said, it's not always about the money! If someone talks about the hobby and collects cards you don't need to state how to make money off people, simply saying i can't be flexible or hey yeah i can help you out a little or the owner won't let us or even a white lie. I usually don't like leaving a bad review, but i understand how a business needs to be run. That being said, it's not always about the money! If someone talks about the hobby and collects cards you don't need to state how to make money off people, simply saying i can't be flexible or hey yeah i can help you out a little or the owner won't let us or even a white lie. They have non bulk single pokemon cards with $2 increased over market price. They did not charge market price on TCG player as I cross referenced. When asked why, an adult male stated they had to pay for rent, accounting for shipping, and stating they aren't fake. Spacious space for Warhammer and card games. Currently charging $350 for a Lorcana booster box and $50 for the decks. Claim that these are market price. Checked while in store on TCGplayer - market price showing 300 for box and 33-35 for decks. Currently charging $350 for a Lorcana booster box and $50 for the decks. Claim that these are market price. Checked while in store on TCGplayer - market price showing 300 for box and 33-35 for decks. Was pretty shocked. This all while someone behind the counter, assumingly an employee, is opening packs and ignoring me. They have been my go to since opening, but I'll never go back again. Nice spot to game in, but wouldn't recommend buying from them unless you've vetted their price. -- They have since replied to my review, so I'd just like to add that I've been to numerous card shops in the area and other states that are selling product at fair prices and build actual communities of players. Paper Hero seems to have 0 interest in this and instead spends their time citing any negative review as misleading information. Real shame. Show less

Currently charging $350 for a Lorcana booster box and $50 for the decks. Claim that these are market price. Checked while in store on TCGplayer - market price showing 300 for box and 33-35 for decks. Was pretty shocked. This all while someone behind the counter, assumingly an employee, is opening packs and ignoring me. They have been my go to since opening, but I'll never go back again. Been in a few times and was slightly worried about my lack of knowledge on MTG, but the staff there have been very helpful in answering questions and recommending the next steps. Recently picked up 40+ singles after ordering on the in-store kiosk. I felt really bad as it took awhile to do, but the staff said this happens sometimes. They mentioned I could message them through Facebook or Instagram with a larger order and have them send me a message when it's all ready to go. I felt a lot better about the situation and will do that next time! Thanks again guys, it is great to have a boardgame/Card game store in West LA! Show less

Been in a few times and was slightly worried about my lack of knowledge on MTG, but the staff there have been very helpful in answering questions and recommending the next steps. Recently picked up 40+ singles after ordering on the in-store kiosk. I felt really bad as it took awhile to do, but the staff said this happens sometimes. They mentioned I could message them through Facebook or Instagram with a larger order and have them send me a message when it's all ready to go. been here twice in search of the “board game meetup” group. the first week there was no way to determine what table was doing what. I asked the guy up front and he just waived his hand in the general direction of all the tables and walked away. the next week I showed up again, after checking their website, social media, checked the meet up group page and I called the store, only to find out the meeting was cancelled. they said I should join their “whats up” but how about instead you post something online? its very easy to update people through some social media outlet. it also seems you have to be a regular to be “seen” by the people behind the counter. I'm sure they're going to respond with some type of excuse like they do for all the other reviews they don't like. Show less

Mixed feelings about this place. Glad there’s a card store near me but this place is kind of expensive. Also had some uncomfortable exchanges with the people behind the counter, especially one interaction where I felt shamed for asking questions about which One Piece booster box I should buy as a beginner. Not only did they goad me into buying the more expensive one, they made me feel stupid that it was even a question. The last straw was walking in to see they are one of many local card shops that are choosing to offer Prismatic Evolution products at a crazy premium. Not great behavior that I hope other customers will remember. I appreciate that they have a large play space and board game collection. Show less

Mixed feelings about this place. Glad there’s a card store near me but this place is kind of expensive. Also had some uncomfortable exchanges with the people behind the counter, especially one interaction where I felt shamed for asking questions about which One Piece booster box I should buy as a beginner. Not only did they goad me into buying the more expensive one, they made me feel stupid that it was even a question. A fantastic local game store with plenty of room to play whether it’s for the posted theme nights/events as well people just coming in casually to play some MtG or tabletop games. I don’t really write reviews but PHG deserves it for the way this store has felt like that third place where I can meet up with friends or just play casually with some of the regulars if I feel like it. Brian and the rest of the staff are always super helpful. I usually buy at least something small to support the store, but I’ve never felt any pressure to buy anything as a condition of being in the space and I think that goes a long way to making the environment as inviting as it is so that when I am looking to buy a booster box of cards or a deck storage box or whatever larger purchase I know I’m gonna get it from them. I’ve even waited until they had specific single cards in stock just because it felt right to get it from them. There’s other stores with fancier little details and different offerings, but this store is where my friends and I return again and again for the welcoming community and the friendly atmosphere. Unlike other stores that funnel MtG commander games into specific nights there’s basically always some people down to play there, but I’m always catching glimpses of groups of people coming in to play different board games or warhammer, D&D groups meeting up, as well as meetups for Lorcana, Pokémon, yiu gi oh, etc. Show less

A fantastic local game store with plenty of room to play whether it’s for the posted theme nights/events as well people just coming in casually to play some MtG or tabletop games. I don’t really write reviews but PHG deserves it for the way this store has felt like that third place where I can meet up with friends or just play casually with some of the regulars if I feel like it. Brian and the rest of the staff are always super helpful. First I would like to say please visit for yourself prior to any reading of "bad" reviews of this store, the reviews claiming prices are steep come from scalpers looking to get mass product for resale, after visiting a NUMBER of card shops all over the greater Los Angeles area I can say without a doubt that Paper Hero's has the best prices aside from buying direct from the company, and if you can do that you shouldn't be looking in card stores. Their stock is unmatched whether it is new drops on release day or old sets that are hard to come by, the one nit-picky thing i would say is a little disappointing is that there is no Japanese packs (i like them as cheep little collections). The community is amazing for MTG and Warhammer, I don't play much Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon but when they have events it is packed!! I will say that if you want community updates for events the store lets their players plan and host so it is recommended that you join the Whatsapp (just ask for the info). I will also like to touch on the staff, Brian (or Bryan) is a wonderful human and extremely knowledgeable, the man runs that place to a T and is often seen running stock, helping answer questions, as well as checking out customers, if he holds a finger up don't take offense he is quite literally doing 17 things at once but will be with you and give you 150% when he gets a second, (ask him for recs if you want your MTG deck to slaughter btw lol). I unfortunately have not gotten many others names but everyone there is super kind and friendly and just makes the place feel so welcoming and warm. I will also say their members program is absolutely worth every cent, it has paid for itself in my case tenfold. discounted boxes and pre-release events, and for every pack you buy you get to roll a d6 to possibly win a free pack FOR EVERY PACK BOUGHT. 1000/10 store, 1000/10 people, 1000/10 community. First I would like to say please visit for yourself prior to any reading of "bad" reviews of this store, the reviews claiming prices are steep come from scalpers looking to get mass product for resale, after visiting a NUMBER of card shops all over the greater Los Angeles area I can say without a doubt that Paper Hero's has the best prices aside from buying direct from the company, and if you can do that you shouldn't be looking in card stores.
