I've been here multiple times with friends over the last few years. They have several board games to choose from and lots of tables that can accommodate groups of different sizes. The staff members are extremely helpful and friendly. Their food has improved over the years. The most recent time that I was here, I got the sweet potato fries, which were cooked nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fries tasted delicious and the portion was decent. The only con is that the price to play board games is higher than it used to be (it's currently $8 per person, whereas in the past it was $5). Show less

This place is best suited for large groups. The wide range of food and drinks is what makes it so convenient. Not to mention the never ending list of games to play. Located near Bathurst and College, Snakes & Lattes is a Board Game Cafe with an abundance of board games and a food and beverage menu. The College location is very spacious with beer on tap, making it an ideal spot for a fun night out with friends or a date. However, it's important to note that they enforce a 3-hour table limit during busy times, with a $20 entrance fee for games alone with unlimited non-alcoholic drinks. The cafe's board game catalogue, available online for each location, provides an extensive selection for customers to choose from. They are stickered for difficulty levels and also labelled for grid storing of the games. Extremely organized and staff were available for any game recommendations. They have wifi on-site to connect to especially if you need to look at videos for a board game! Additionally, the unisex bathrooms in the back have several stalls available. Do note, that their music is sometimes a bit too loud if you need to concentrate on certain games. Food-wise, we had a good time with our group. Our bills could be split per person. The menu offered a variety of options from alcoholic beverages, food, dessert and specials. Our group ordered the Nutella Latte, Game Night Brew, Gnocchi, Fish & Chips, Bear Down Burger, Ginger Ale, Bailey's Irish coffee, Mac & Cheese, and Spinach & Artichoke dip. We would not order some of the dishes in the future like the slightly overcooked gnocchi and bland mushy peas in the Fish & Chips. However, the overall quality and value were great like the Sweet Potato Fries and Classic Fries. The staff were all very attentive and very helpful with recommendations and board game support! My husband and I had an amazing date here! We want to commend our server (it was her first day on September 29th, I apologize I can't remember her name), she did a wonderful job and was so accommodating and friendly! I'd also like to recognize Gardner, one of the game experts. He did a fantastic job and made our experience so fun!! When we told him what we were looking for in a game he was so quick to bring us three that kept us entertained for the duration of our stay. He also explained the rules efficiently, so we weren't forced to read through instructions. I was very happy to have his help, as one of the more daunting parts of a board game cafe is actually choosing your games and learning the rules. There is a bar right at the front, different style of seating (booths & tables) , washrooms were gender neutral. Once you sit, you have an option to order food or plays games $10/person for game play 18% gratuity added for groups over 6 They had two walls of games plus more. There were so many games to choose from. The staff was kind enough to provide their expertise in helping us chose a game & take us through the instructions on how to play. We were there about 3 hours. It’s impossible to get bored. Onto the food, this was a hit and miss. Mac and cheese came out cold despite it being served in a cast iron. This was probably my our least favourite dish as it lacked flavour. The chicken sandwich was tasty, the chicken wings were seasoned well. The fries were actually really good (and thin cut). Onto the drinks, the Nutella latte was super decadent, so rich and creamy and warm, perfect was to end the night. Overall, we really enjoyed our time here. The staff was friendly & informative. I celebrated my birthday at this restaurant on December 26, and it was an excellent experience. We were a large group of about 12 to 15 people, and everything went very smoothly. The food was delicious, especially the calamari, which was outstanding. The service was great, particularly from Melissa, who took wonderful care of us and was very attentive. I would also like to mention the young lady (unfortunately I don’t remember her name) who came to explain the games to us — she was very friendly and helpful. We had a fantastic time from 5:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. The place is beautiful, well-lit, and has a great atmosphere. It is also very convenient to get to by TTC, which is a big plus in Toronto. TL;DR: Everything you need in a board game café/bar. Buckle in for an essay review readers 🚉 Friday night of BreakoutCon, earlier this year, a large group of game designer friends and game enthusiasts hung out at S&L. There were a handful that came from NYC and were amazing not only that Toronto had something like Snakes & Lattes, but that there were multiple locations. Jealousy was expressed. I moved out of Toronto and struggle to find board game cafés / bars of the caliber of S&L. Some people may take it for granted because it’s a chain, and while we should always put a critical eye on what we endorse or consume, it’s a good place. I can get a tower of espresso martinis as I play a tower of Jenga. I can share nachos as I get my birds to lay eggs in wingspan. It’s great for an afternoon of fun, or the evenings main event! I have so much fun there. You may need to track down a server from time to time, but that’s because they try to make sure they aren’t infringing on ur game time vibe - all have been so nice! I’m gluten free so food options ARE limited, but they are great for most stuff. Good drinks & lattes, good game selection. Upon taking a bite, the mushrooms seemed to have shrivelled and disappeared. I felt like I ordered batter on batter on batter. It was almost inedible as I was gagging at every bite taken. Not to mention, I ordered drip coffee with “milk” at the end. There was a film of mucky water floating on top. It almost felt as if I had just finished scrubbing my bathroom floors. The fries tasted like they were fried in old oil. The food unfortunately made both my partner and I feel pretty sick. Very disappointing experience and we were so excited to come :( Show less

Of course the games can be a little worn out but everything was functional. Lots to choose from and the staff is helpful and friendly. A friend and I decided to check this place out on Saturday night, and so glad we did. It's the perfect place for a laid back evening if you enjoy board games. They have an excellent selection so there's something for everyone. And if you're thinking you need a large group to have a good time (as I thought prior to coming here), don't worry, they've got a wide variety of 2-player games. If you're stuck and need help understanding a game, there are game experts readily available to assist. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The drinks were good. We had an issue with one of the desserts and they gladly exchanged it without any issue, which my friend and I really appreciated. If you're looking for something indoors especially when it's cold outside but aren't a fan of super large crowds and still wanna be able to have a conversation and fun times, I'd say you can't go wrong here. They have an excellent selection so there's something for everyone. And if you're thinking you need a large group to have a good time (as I thought prior to coming here), don't worry, they've got a wide variety of 2-player games. We were given a table and went out for smoke they seated half of my table on a different place and ask us to move in a very rude way. There are dirty plates and glasses all over, we had to keep calling our server and drinks takes for ever to get to the table (place not even busy) cause staff is just chatting at the bar instead of sound their job. Great portion of nachos for sharing and good selection of games. I recommend just go playing cause their service is usually mediocre. Show less

I am incredibly disappointed with my recent visit to Snakes & Lattes. The experience was a headache from the start. Despite having a confirmation email, the receptionist claimed she couldn't find our reservation and told us there were no seats. Even after I offered to show her our confirmation email, she insisted it was canceled. After making us wait, she suddenly said she could 'put us in.' Her attitude was completely unprofessional and unfriendly. The food was just as bad. I ordered the spicy peanut noodles, which had zero spice and no flavor. It also doesn't come with protein, so I had to pay extra for chicken. While the board game selection is large, we encountered several games that were unusable because they were missing batteries. To top it off, we waited an eternity for our check because nobody could find our server. There is a serious lack of communication here. We paid a $20 general admission fee per person, but between the poor service, the broken games, and the bland food, it was a total waste of money. I won't be back. Show less
