Love that there’s a board game store so close by! They have a great selection, ranging all different genres and styles of games, including family-friendly games. They also have lots of dice, magic the gathering cards, and everything you need to set up a d&d session! I also love that they host events... Read more

I no longer live in Cincinnati but I have good memories from going to Woodburn before I moved last year. My husband really likes tabletop games so we would visit occasionally. As a woman who’s been to many similar shops in different cities, I remember specifically why my first experience at Woodburn was different - the person behind the counter, when talking about the game my husband was buying and answering questions, spoke to both of us and included me in the conversation instead of treating me indifferently or assuming I didn’t play as well. It sounds simple and obvious, but it mattered to me! Every other visit there was equally great. 100% a shop worth supporting. Show less

Five stars is not enough. The thing about Woodburn games is, they're the most welcoming gaming store in the region. Their selection of board games and indie RPGs is second to none. The staff always has phenomenal recommendations if you're unsure about what game meets your needs. Plus, they've got a bunch of demo copies in the store's open play area that they can show off. I've been playing and making games for the better part of three decades, I've spent hundreds of hours in various stores across the area, so when I tell you that they're my favorite game store in Cincinnati I hope that the gravity of that recommendation comes across. I cannot recommend them enough. Seriously. Show less

Five stars is not enough. The thing about Woodburn games is, they're the most welcoming gaming store in the region. Their selection of board games and indie RPGs is second to none. The staff always has phenomenal recommendations if you're unsure about what game meets your needs. Plus, they've got a bunch of demo copies in the store's open play area that they can show off. This store straight up stole my money. I ordered a game from them online and got a confirmation email that it was ready for pickup so I went to go pickup the game and they said they didn't have it in stock but that it should be there Tuesday. Ok not too big of a deal. Mistakes happen. I return Tues... Read more

This store straight up stole my money. I ordered a game from them online and got a confirmation email that it was ready for pickup so I went to go pickup the game and they said they didn't have it in stock but that it should be there Tuesday. Ok not too big of a deal. Mistakes happen. I return Tuesday evening and they tell me their order hasn't arrived and that I could try back later in the week. I try back Wednesday evening and they are unpacking the order when I arrive. I ask for help finding my game and after some searching back and forth the employee can't find it. He proceeds to get on the computer and make a call and informs me that their distributor ran out of copies before they were able to fulfill their order so they won't be getting the game for quite some time. The employee then asks me if I would like to keep my order placed for when it comes in or if I would like a refund. I tell him I would like a refund, he says no problem does something on his computer and says the refund process has started, and I leave. This was 14 days ago and I still have yet to receive my refund. Absolutely unbelievable. Show less

I ordered a game from them online and got a confirmation email that it was ready for pickup so I went to go pickup the game and they said they didn't have it in stock but that it should be there Tuesday. I've had bad experiences at game stores before, so I was cautious and pessimistic when I moved to Cincinnati and started checking out local game stores, but Woodburn is great. The employees and the patrons treat everyone, regardless of age, sex, race or gender identity equally and it's a very positive, welcoming atmosphere. Safe spaces can be disappointingly hard to find among local game stores, but from my experience Woodburn doesn't have that problem. Presentation is important, and I've been to plenty of game stores that are disorganized or cluttered, but Woodburn uses the space they have very well and the store always looks clean and organized. The only downside is that they have a very small space, so there's a good chance if you show up to an event late or don't pre-register they won't have spots. Because of limited space they also have a smaller inventory than some bigger game stores, but it should cover most of your basic needs, and they can also order stuff for you if they don't have it in store. I've had bad experiences at game stores before, so I was cautious and pessimistic when I moved to Cincinnati and started checking out local game stores, but Woodburn is great. The employees and the patrons treat everyone, regardless of age, sex, race or gender identity equally and it's a very positive, welcoming atmosphere. I have purchased and preordered several games from them and never had any issues. Communication has always been on point. The store has a well curated selection that is sorted by type of game and even has recommendations from staff. I tried to say my peace to the new manager at woodburn after I found out theyre charging a group of about 50 regulars $1/month for the new $40/month membership. For reference, I've been going there 1-2 times a week for a couple years and buy everything I can there before anywhere else. Tried to be loyal to my lgs. Always tried to help make the place welcoming for new people to the point that the store owner has thanked me for it. Only for this new manager to explain to me at length and in detail JUST how INSIFNIFICANT my business really was. I only come 1-2 times a week after all, and I only play tcgs but theyre also a board game store. She made a point to correct me that I HADN'T been a regular for two years. In fact, the first time Id come by was four months shy of that. (HOW DARE I insinuate that Id been a loyal customer for 2 years when it had really been a year and 8 months.) There are other people who have been there since the store opened 7 years ago, she reminded me. I guess wild that I consider myself a regular after (almost🙄) 2 years. I've tried to be patient with them. They "change their minds" about the $100+ prizes offered for event winners AFTER people paid for the event and got to the finals, changed their minds about who made the cut for finals at all too. Two of us tied for the last place in cut off and staff told us we could both attend. Then they delay the event for like half a year just to tell me a week before that I'm out they wont take us both. I strongly recommend you consider other stores for board games or tcgs. They are unprofessional and I have NEVER had issues like this with ANY other LGSs in the area. Your business doesn't matter to them. It won't after years. Most LGSs treat their regulars like family, Woodburn games will treat you like you're shopping at Walmart. Show less
